Specifications for zinc-coated articles frequently provide for different classes of coating so that the purchaser can select the coating weight [mass] most suitable to his needs. 1.1x00a0;This test method covers procedures for determining the weight [mass] of coating on iron or steel sheet, wire, and other articles in which the coating is zinc or a zinc alloy, such as zinc-58201;% aluminum (including zinc-58201;% aluminum-mischmetal and zinc-58201;% aluminum-0.18201;% magnesium), zinc-aluminum-magnesium (including zinc-5 to 98201;% aluminum-magnesium and zinc-9 to 138201;% aluminum-magnesium) or 558201;% aluminum-zinc. It is assumed that all who use these test methods will be trained analysts capable of performing common laboratory procedures skillfully and safely. It is expected that work will be performed in a properly equipped laboratory under appropriate quality control practices such as those described in Guide E 882. These test methods must be applied twice, once to each side of the specimen if coating weight and composition are required for both sides of a coated sheet. Two separate specimens are required for this purpose.1.1 These test methods cover independently the chemical analysis of each surface of zinc-nickel alloy electrolytically coated on steel sheet. 简介:This International Standard specifies methods of determining the coating mass per unit area by gravimetry and chemical composition on one side-surface of zinc- and/or aluminium-based coatings on steel by means of inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometric or flame atomic absorption spectrometry. For example, this test method applies for zinc and/or aluminium based coatings on steel such as galvanize (hot dip and electrolytic), galvaneal (hot-dip), zinc-nickel electrolytic, zinc-5 % aluminium coating (hot-dip) and zinc-55 % aluminium coating (hot-dip). Galvanizing gives a pure zinc coating. Galvanealling gives a zinc-iron alloyed coating. Zinc-nickel electrolytic methods give zinc-nickel alloyed coatings.This method is applicable to zinc contents between 40 % (mass fraction) and 100 % (mass fraction); aluminium contents between 0,02 % (mass fraction) and 60 % (mass fraction); nickel contents between 7 % (mass fraction) and 20 % (mass fraction); iron contents between 0,2 % (mass fraction) and 20 % (mass fraction); silicon contents between 0,2 % (mass fraction) and 10 % (mass fraction); lead contents between 0,005 % (mass fraction) and 2 % (mass fraction). For example, the applicable elements for these products are as follows: galvanizing is specified for iron and aluminium; galvanealling is specified for zinc, iron and aluminium; zinc-nickel electrolytic methods are specified for zinc, iron and nickel; zinc-5 % aluminium coating is specified for zinc, iron, aluminium and silicon; zinc-55 % aluminium is specified for zinc, iron, aluminium and silicon.FAAS determination for the chemical composition of a coating layer is not applicable for zinc.These test methods are intended as referee methods to test such materials for compliance with mass per unit area and compositional specifications of International Standards.

The heavier coating will provide greater protection against mechanical damage which may break the coating. 1.1 This test method covers procedures for determining the weight [mass] of coating on aluminum-coated iron or steel sheets and wire, and on other aluminum-coated iron and steel articles. 1.2 The final results determined by this test method shall be expressed in inch-pound units or SI units, depending on the units used in the material specification to which the results are to be compared. Specifications for zinc-coated articles frequently provide for different classes of coating so that the purchaser can select the coating weight [mass] most suitable to his needs. 1.1 This test method covers procedures for determining the weight [mass] of coating on iron or steel sheet, wire, and other articles in which the coating is zinc or a zinc alloy, such as zinc-5 % aluminum (including zinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal and zinc-5 % aluminum-0.1 % magnesium) or 55 % aluminum-zinc. In the body of this test method, reference to zinc coating shall be interpreted to also include zinc alloy coating except where specifically stated otherwise. 1.2 The final results determined by this test method shall be expressed in inch-pound units or SI units, depending on the units used in the material specification to which the results are to be compared.
