It describes the infrared analytical technique, including the sampling and gas conditioning system. The method should fulfil the performance characteristics requirements of this Technical Specification and the expanded uncertainty is less than 20 % relative at the daily Emission Limit Value (ELV). In order to use an alternative method to this method, it is necessary to demonstrate equivalence according to the Technical Specification CEN/TS 14793. It is necessary that the capability to demonstrate equivalence is officially recognised by the national accreditation body or law.

This test method is designed to determine whether the material meets the requirements described in Specifications C787 and C996.1.1 This test method is applicable to the isotopic analysis of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) with 235U concentrations less than or equal to 5 % and 234U, 236U concentrations of 0.0002 to 0.1 %. 1.2 This test method may be applicable to the analysis of the entire range of 235U isotopic compositions providing that adequate Certified Reference Materials (CRMs or traceable standards) are available. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. The procedure described lays down requirements to measure the PCB congeners given in Annex A (see Table A.1). It is applicable to the 12 non- and mono-ortho PCB designated by the WHO. It is optimised to measure PCB concentrations of about 0,01 ng WHOTEQ/m.In addition to the 12 non- and mono-ortho-PCB the present document is also applicable to measure further PCB-congeners like the "marker PCB" 28, 52, 101, 138, 153, 180 (see Annex F).This document specifies a framework of quality control requirements for any PCB sampling, extraction, cleanup, identification and quantification methods to be applied.As a result of their similar chemical behaviour PCBs, as shown in the validation campaign, can be sampled from stationary sources together with the PCDDs/PCDFs. Therefore, it is possible to measure PCBs together with PCDDs/PCDFs by applying EN 1948-1, -2, -3 and -4. The complete sampling procedure is described in EN 1948-1. However, adherence to this procedure does not automatically guarantee regulatory acceptance of the regulatory safeguards measurements. It remains the sole responsibility of the user of this test method to ensure that its application to safeguards has the approval of the proper regulatory authorities.1.1 This test method covers the isotopic analysis of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) and may be used for the entire range of 235U isotopic compositions for which standards are available.1.2 This test method is applicable to the determination of the isotopic relationship between two UF6 samples. For some materials, the location and identification of fracture origins may not be possible due to the specific microstructure. 5.2x00a0;This practice is principally oriented towards characterization of fracture origins in specimens loaded in so-called fast fracture testing, but the approach can be extended to include other modes of loading as well. 5.3x00a0;The procedures described within are primarily applicable to mechanical test specimens, although the same procedures may be relevant to component fracture analyses as well. It is customary practice to test a number of specimens (constituting a sample) to permit statistical analysis of the variability of the materialx2019;s strength. It is usually not difficult to test the specimens in a manner that will facilitate subsequent fractographic analysis. This may not be the case with component fracture analyses. Component fracture analysis is sometimes aided by cutting test pieces from the component and fracturing the test pieces. Fracture markings and fracture origins from the latter may aid component interpretation. 5.4x00a0;Optimum fractographic analysis requires examination of as many similar specimens or components as possible. This will enhance the chances of successful interpretations. Examination of only one or a few specimens can be misleading. Of course, in some instances the fractographer may have access to only one or a few fractured specimens or components. 5.5x00a0;Successful and complete fractography also requires careful consideration of all ancillary information that may be available, such as microstructural characteristics, material fabrication, properties and service histories, component or specimen machining, or preparation techniques. 5.6x00a0;Fractographic inspection and analysis can be a time-consuming process. Experience will in general enhance the chances of correct interpretation and characterization, but will not obviate the need for time and patience. Repeat examinations are often fruitful. For example, a particular origin type or key feature may be overlooked in the first few test pieces of a sample set. As the fractographer gains experience by looking at multiple examples, he or she may begin to appreciate some key feature that was initially overlooked. 5.7x00a0;This practice is applicable to quality control, materials research and development, and design. It will also serve as a bridge between mechanical testing standards and statistical analysis practices to permit comprehensive interpretation of data for design. An important feature of this practice is the adoption of a consistent manner of characterizing fracture origins, including origin nomenclature.
